My research group is based in the School of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
Prospective students
Honours
I supervise Honours projects every year, usually on one of my core themes: spatio-stochastic modelling, spatial epidemiology, wastewater surveillance or tuberculosis modelling. A strong foundation in statistics and an interest in R are a good start.
Masters
I am happy to supervise Masters students on topics that fit my research programme. Please send a short research statement and your academic transcript.
PhD
I currently supervise one PhD student and welcome enquiries from candidates interested in spatial epidemiology or statistical public health, particularly as new funding becomes available.
What I offer
- Mentoring in a supportive, collaborative research group
- Regular research meetings with staff and postgraduate students through SEPIMOD
- Access to national and international research networks
- Opportunities to present at conferences and co-author papers
- Guidance on applying for NRF and other funding
Collaborators
I work with researchers at:
- University of Pretoria: spatial statistics, GIS and epidemiology
- Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC)
- Johns Hopkins University: tuberculosis modelling
- Old Mutual–Wits Risk Lab
If you work on spatial epidemiology, infectious disease modelling or wastewater surveillance and would like to collaborate, I would be glad to hear from you.
